Virginia Department of Employment Dispute Resolution
AdviceLine Icon AdviceLine

Through its toll-free AdviceLine, the Department of Employment Dispute Resolution (EDR) provides consultation and advice to state government employees and agency managers on their employment rights and responsibilities, as well as available options in resolving workplace conflict. The role of the EDR Consultant is to listen, assess and advise. Employees, HR personnel and agency managers may contact a Consultant by phone, toll free, by dialing 1-888-23ADVICE.

Effective Thursday, October 26, 2006 our new AdviceLine hours are: M-F, 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Confidentiality

State government employees and agency managers that contact EDR are not required to provide their name and/or the agency in which they work. Names and other identifying information shared in conversations between an EDR Consultant and an AdviceLine caller will remain confidential, unless in the interest of safety to the caller or others, it is necessary to disclose such information.

Conflicts of Interest

To the extent possible, an EDR Consultant will avoid advising both an employee and agency management on the same issue. For example, if a Consultant receives a call from an agency manager about an issue for which she knows she had previously advised an involved employee, the Consultant will refer the agency manager to another available Consultant for guidance. The same is true if a call is received from an agency manager, and then later a call from the involved employee is received -- the employee will be referred to another Consultant for guidance.

AdviceLine Feedback Questionnaire

EDR continually strives to ensure that state government employees and agency managers are provided timely, accurate and useful information and advice regarding use of the grievance procedure, their employment rights and responsibilities, as well as available options in resolving workplace conflict. In conjunction with this effort, EDR would like to ask its AdviceLine users to provide feedback regarding their experiences, observations, and suggestions for improvements.
